Georgeann Fisher - RTD

LITTLETON, CO, November 7, 2006:  RTD and the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) in a joint effort to provide blind residents of the Denver area with a sneak preview of the new Southeast Light Rail have organized a special ride starting at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, November 7.  Eager to discover the joys of new options for fast, convenient, and affordable travel to the southeast metro area members starting talking with RTD some weeks back to arrange this early ride.

Scott LaBarre, president of the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado stated that "In a metro area, it is imperative that a robust public transit system exist so that blind and visually-impaired individuals can travel independently to their jobs, their schools, and to life's other activities.  RTD's new light rail line will open up great new opportunities for the blind of our community.  We are excited and appreciative that RTD is working closely with us to make sure that the blind community is well aware of the new system."

About the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado
The National Federation of the Blind of Colorado is an affiliate of the largest organization of the blind in America, the National Federation of the Blind.  The NFB of Colorado was chartered in 1955.  The NFB believes the real problem of blindness is not the lack of eyesight but rather the misunderstanding and lack of information which exist.  We believe that with proper training and opportunity, blindness can be reduced to the level of a physical nuisance.
