Colorado Center for the Blind Announces an Exciting New Training Program

Washington, D.C. (June 18, 2007): The Colorado Center for the Blind (CCB), an internationally known training center for blind youth and adults, will begin training blind entrepreneurs who will manage and operate their own businesses within the Randolph-Sheppard Program.

On June 11th five bright, energetic and blind individuals became the first class to begin training in the Randolph-Sheppard Training Program.  The centers new cutting edge food service training program will fill a niche which is not now being met anywhere in the country.  Training at the center in conjunction with an onsite internship with the state of Colorado will prepare students to manage and operate vending, cafeteria and retail stores throughout the state.  “With the Center’s involvement, this is going to be a high octane training program”, said Kevan Worley, President of the National Association of Blind Merchants.  Students will be learning all aspects of running food service businesses, marketing, accounting principles, and creative catering.  Students will be cooking weekly meals and be available for catering opportunities.

Julie Deden, Executive Director of the Colorado Center for the Blind, states that not only will they be held to the highest of standards to learn and perform all aspect of operating a business but they will graduate with a full belief in themselves as blind individuals and have a network of over 2500 other blind venders supporting their efforts.

In 1936 the Randolph-Sheppard Act was initiated allowing blind entrepreneurs to have first opportunity to bid and acquire vending and food service location at state and federal buildings.
